Forensic Psychiatry

Forensic Psychiatry is the overlap of psychiatry and the law, and this realm encompasses many roles. We provide expert psychiatric opinions that may be helpful to courts and attorneys. These opinions may be required or helpful in a variety of criminal and civil cases. We are available to act as consultants on a case, or to perform evaluations, write reports, and be available as an expert witness. Some types of evaluations that we perform include:

  • Insanity Evaluations (Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity)
  • State of Mind
  • Fitness-for-Duty
  • Dangerousness or risk assessment
  • Psychiatric malpractice
  • Crime investigations
  • Competency (including competency to stand trial)

This list not exhaustive, but demonstrates some of the types of services we provide. We encourage attorneys and courts seeking evaluations to call us and discuss the case to see if our services may be helpful.

Dr. Minhas has training in both, Child Psychiatry and Forensics, and so is able to offer special expertise on forensic issues pertaining to children, or childhood onset illness. These services are available nation-wide. Dr. Minhas has performed evaluations in criminal and civil cases, and has appeared as an expert witness in federal and district courts.
